Security Tightened in Public Cemeteries

Jakarta City Park and Forestry Agency has tightened security at number of public cemeteries (TPUs) to restrict people from visiting TPUs for grave visit (ziarah) on May 12-16, 2021 in order to prevent COVID-19 transmission.

Security in 14 TPUs has been tightened because those TPUs are usually crowded with grave visitors on Eid every years

Jakarta City Park and Forestry Agency's Data and Information Center Head, Ivan Murcahyo stated, his side deployed more personnel to guard 14 major TPUs in Jakarta, such as TPU Menteng Pulo, TPU Penggilingan, TPU Tegal Alur, TPU Pondok Ranggon, and TPU Karet Bivak.

As well as TPU Tanah Kusir, TPU Srengseng Sawah, TPU Semper, TPU Karet Pasar Baru Barat, TPU Joglo, TPU Kampung Kandang, TPU Pondok Kelapa, TPU Utan Kayu, and TPU Kawi-kawi.

100 Personnel Deployed to TPUs and Protocol Roads in Central Jakarta

"There are 82 TPUs managed by Jakarta Government. Security in 14 TPUs has been tightened because those TPUs are usually crowded with grave visitors on Eid every years. Security is tightened by police and Satpol PP personnel. We hope no one performs grave visit until May 16," he conveyed, Saturday (5/15).

His side has coordinated it with regional officials thus restrictions on grave visit can be more effective on the field without any misunderstanding.

"We only close TPU for grave visit, while funeral process (burial) is still running as usual," he asserted.

According to him, City Park and Forestry Agency also appreciated community's support for not performing grave visit for a while to avoid crowds.

"Most people can understand the restrictions on grave visit on May 13. It can be seen from situation at Penggilingan Layur and Tegal Alur Public Cemeteries where no grave visitors on second day of Eid," he mentioned.

He explained that security after May 16, 2021 will be also tightened to ensure no crowds when grave visit is allowed.

"We still need to tighten security by involving TNI/Police and Satpol PP. We hope people can understand that the policy is enforced for the sake of many people," he said.
